Before we get into the review, let’s see a little background info concerning where the term “HMO” came from. Firstly, HMO was initially used by a composer nicknamed “HMO tokanonakanohito“. He is a composer of Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO), a leading Japanese electropop band. He released a music CD titled “Hatsune Miku Orchestra” with an illustration of Hatsune Miku (drawn by manga artist Kuu) at the jacket. Here’s how it looks like:
This version of Hatsune Miku design is gaining popularity in Miku fandom, so it is only natural for her to get a Nendoroid rendetion by GSC, officially titled: Nendoroid Hatsune Miku: Absolute HMO Edition. ^^
Now that you know (at least a little) about HMO, let’s dive directly into the review, shall we? ^^
As usual, we are going to take a look at the packaging.
IMHO the light-green colored background really suits Miku HMO’s hair color, and the “Hatsune Miku Orchestra” writing on the cover display make the box stand out, compared to the other standard-release Nendoroid. You might also have noticed that the size of this box is also larger – well, you know the reason, don’t you? ^^
The container really packs a lot of stuff there – especially the instruments. Several body parts and accessories are being included in an extra container which is taped at the rear side of the main container.
Oh, and you also get a ticket to watch a special video of HMO at Nico Nico Douga. How to do it? Simply log in to your Nico Nico Douga account (or create one if you don’t have one), then visit this page and enter the access code (located at the top-right corner on your ticket).
Here is the complete listing of all parts and accessories included along with Miku HMO:
- 3 face plates (one is attached)
- 2 oversized left sleeves (one is attached)
- 2 oversized right sleeves (one is attached)
- 2 left palms
- 2 right palms
- 2 leeks
- A headset with wires sticking out
- A megaphone
- A recorder
- An electric drum set
- 2 electric keyboard with stands (gray and black)
- A stand + base
- A quick manual
- A set of face decals for Nendoroid Kagamine Rin and Len
Now you can see why the box is larger, compared to other Nendoroid in general – because there are so many parts and accessories included in the package. ^^
The quick manual contains some handy information, i.e: a listing of parts and accessories as well as how to set/attach her various hand types and how to swap the face plates. Kindly read it if you are having difficulties setting up your Miku HMO. ^^
You might have noticed that Nendoroid Kagamine Rin and Len come with a blank face plate. Although the twins come with their own decals, Miku HMO also comes with some HMO-themed decals for them as well, so you can create a complete Vocaloid Orchestra scene there … well, excluding Nendoroid Megurine Luka. ^^
Now let’s talk about Miku HMO’s special features that make her so unique. ^^
The first feature of Miku HMO is her super movable joints. It seems that GSC has learned from their past mistakes and improved their full action joint system as Miku HMO’s joints are significantly better than Nendoroid Saber: Super Movable Edition‘s. It is super easy (and super fun as well) to display her with different kind of poses. All of the joints on her hair, hands, and legs are really flexible … plus, you also get the twin-tails support that allows her to stand without the stand-base. ^^
Yes, a first glance at the box size (and content) should have given you an idea about the most obvious features of Miku HMO: massive number of
optional parts and accessories included in the package. IMHO a full electric drum set, two electric keyboard, a megaphone, and a recorder are really generous for a single Nendoroid package. ^^
Enough with the features, let’s see some of Miku HMO’s solo display in front of the camera. ^^
Well … isn’t she really adorable!? Anyway, here are some pics of Miku HMO having fun with her new friends. ^^
Miku HMO: Isn’t she cute?
Sharo: Ah … may I hold her?
Kirino: Oh my …
Kurisu: Ugh ….
Tako-Luka: It’s sleep time Baby Miku-chan …
Miku HMO: Waaaaaaahh!!!! I-I-I still want to play with her!! Waaahh!! T_____T
Kirino: Ah … Baby Miku-chan looks so adorable …..
Well, it seems that Miku HMO’s mood was really bad after that little incident, so I decided to ask her for a walk at the town square plaza. Here are some pics when we were enjoying the time at a cafe there:
LOL …. she looks to enjoy her time there. I guess her mood has recove- …
Wha-!? Someone ate the cake! No, I didn’t eat your cake, Miku-chan! I’m telling the truth here …
H-h-hey! Why do you stare at me like that? You aren’t suspecting me, are you, Miku-chan? (-_-“)
So … is she worth to be purchased? OBVIOUSLY! It is a total bargain – you get a super movable Nendoroid Hatsune Miku with a set of electric musical instrument sets. What could be better than this offer? I see there are a lot of Nendoroid newbies start their Nendoroid collection from Miku HMO as well. ^^
Well then, that’s about all of my review on Nendoroid Hatsune Miku: Absolute HMO Edition. As usual, critics, suggestions, and comments are welcome. See you again in my next review, Nendonesian!
